The American Cultures
Student Prize
The American Cultures Center is pleased to announce the first
American Cultures Student Prize. The American Cultures Student
Prize is intended to recognize a standard of excellence in scholarship,
which fits with the core intention of the American Cultures requirement–to
create scholarship, which promotes the understanding of race, ethnicity
and culture in a comparative and integrative fashion.
Two prizes will be awarded. One for the successful submission
from a lower-division course, and one for the successful submission
from an upper division course. In addition to a cash award of $1,000
and, with permission, recipients will have their work published
on the American Cultures website.
Who is eligible?
Faculty may nominate the work of students in any American Cultures
course taught in either the Spring 2007 or Fall
2007 semester. Student work can be nominated by any faculty
member.
What can be submitted?
Research papers, essays, and other written work from all courses
at all levels may be submitted. Please note that a 1–2 page
interpretative essay must accompany the following types of submissions:
poetry, short fiction, and computer programs/websites. Please submit
in both hard copy and electronic email attachment (Microsoft Word).

No
more than one submission per student will be considered. All copy
should be double spaced and paginated.
Applications should be submitted for review by March 17,
2008. Decisions will be announced April 21, 2008. The award ceremony
will be held on May 13, 2008.
